Clinton Njie Confirm as Tottenham player with a 5-year contract

Tottenham Hotspur has supported their exhausted forward line by marking Cameroon Clinton Njie from Olympique Lyonnais for an undisclosed expense on Saturday.

"We're delighted to announce the signing of Clinton Njie, subject to international clearance and work permit," the club said in an announcement.

Clinton Njie,22, who has scored six objectives in 11 appearances for his nation, can play centre forward or in one of the wide attacking positions and has marked a five-year contract with Spurs, who completed fifth last season.

Clinton Njie scored eight goals for Lyon in 33 appearances last term as they completed runners-up behind Paris St Germain. 

The 22-year-old, Njie, who is on a five-year contract at White Hart Lane until 2020, said: "I'm ready to give my best to help the club achieve its aims."

Tottenham , who lost 1-0 to Manchester United in their opening Premier League match of the season, just have Harry Kane as a perceived striker in the wake of selling the “failing to meet expectations” Roberto Soldado to Villarreal on Friday.

Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor additionally appears to be on the way out of the north London club after barely featuring in the first team  during  Mauricio Pochettino's first season as manager a year ago.

The former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City striker has not been given a squad number with Spurs, suggesting his days at White Hart Lane are numbered.

Tottenham has a chance to recover on the race after the lost against Man U by host Stoke City later on Saturday.

Yaya Toure says he was "unfairly" criticized last season but insisted is over it.

The Ivory Coast captain was at his best against West Brom, scoring a beautiful goal in his club's Premier League opener on Monday.

"For me, I'm quite surprised. Last season was not the best season for us, but second in the table, I think, is not bad at all," the 32-year-old was quoted as saying by the British media.

"There has been a lot of criticism about me but it was not a bad season. Twelve goals and I won the Copa (Africa Cup of Nations) for my country. It's not bad at all.

"I know what I want, I know what I have to do. I don't care what people are saying about me," he said.
Toure insisted he was "not back", as had been widely reported.

"I've always been there. People have to understand football is not talking about one player, it's about the team. I hope this year is going to be fine for us," Toure said.

"The important thing is we have a target. That is to bounce back like we did two seasons ago.

"The Premier League is very tough. There's a very long way to go. There's 37 more games, we want to be fully aware of all that's coming," he said.

City will host the champions Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and the importance of the match is not lost on Toure.

"We have a massive game on Sunday against a direct rival. I hope it will be a good one for us," the former Barcelona player said.

"Sunday is going to be tough again – after that we have Everton. I think it is a strong start. We are fully focused this year."

This Sunday will mark the real start of the premier league race among the top Big Five as City host Chelsea on the Etihad Stadium.

Clinton Njie to Leave Lyon for Tottonham - 12 August 2015

Clinton Njie, 21, who can play in several attacking positions and has eight caps for Cameroon is now linked to a transfer that will see him Leave Lyon to Tottenham Hotspur.
Olympique Lyonnais are very close to an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of Cameroon striker to the London side.
"We are close to an agreement but there's no urgency for us," said president Jean-Michel Aulas on Wednesday to French radio RMC.
"We want to complete our own signings first ...... but I thank Daniel Levy (Tottenham chairman) to have made an offer that we now regard as consistent," he added.
Lyon, are to return to the Champions League after a three-year wait, and they are preparing to sign at least a centre back and a midfielder by the end of the transfer window.
According to media reports, Tottenham are ready to pay 14 million euros ($15.66 million) plus up to three million more in further payments for Njie who scored seven goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances with Lyon last season.

Manchester United wins Tottenham in first league match

Manchester United starts their season with a win against Tottenham thanks to Kyle Walker's early own goal.

After Christian Eriksen lobbed over when clean through, United went ahead as Walker poked into his own net when attempting to tackle Wayne Rooney.

That led to a better spell for United, who did not have a shot on target until Ashley Young's 65th-minute effort. 

The visitors had chances of their own as they rallied late in the contest, but ultimately Walker's own goal, in the 22nd minute, proved to be the difference.

Sergio Romero - one of five United debutants - saved a late Eriksen drive.
Louis van Gaal celebrated his 64th birthday with a victory but his team were hanging on towards the end as Romero was twice called into action.

Tottenham - who finished fifth in the Premier League last season, six points behind United - started and ended the game strongly only three days after completing their final pre-season game against AC Milan in Germany.

Swansea held Jose Mourinho's Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea had Thibaut Courtois sent off as they started their Premier League title defense with a draw against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge.

Oscar's free-kick put the Blues ahead before Andre Ayew stabbed a close-range equaliser after keeper Courtois had kept out Bafetimbi Gomis's header. 

Diego Costa overcame hamstring trouble to start up front for Chelsea and after a bright start by Swansea, the home side went ahead in the 23rd minute when Oscar's free-kick from wide on the left curled straight in. 

Federico Fernandez put Willian's cross past his own keeper before Courtois was sent off after bringing down Gomis. 

Jose Mourinho's men were leading 2-1 at Stamford Bridge when Courtois was sent off for fouling Bafetimbi Gomis right on the edge of his area in the 52nd minute and the French striker scored the equaliser from the spot.

New signing Asmir Begovic came on but failed to stop Gomis's spot-kick.
Swansea played with an extra man for more than half an hour but could not make the most of the advantage.

The dangerous Gomis had the ball in the net but was ruled offside while Jefferson Montero, who was excellent throughout, forced a fine save from Begovic.
