Cameroon Women's Coach blamed lack of funding as there were knocked out

Cameroon female team Coach Enow Ngachu blamed a lack of funding and preparation as they were knocked out of the FIFA women’s world cup on Saturday as the last African nation competing in the tournament.

Wang Shanshan's 12th minute goal put 1999 runners-up China into the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over surprise newcomers Cameroon.

"It's a bad day for the Cameroon national side. We came up against a very good team," said Cameroon coach Ngachu after the game in Edmonton.

“The day we are prepared well an African nation will be able to win the World Cup ”
Said Enow Ngachu Cameroon coach

The Indomitable Lionesses had been just the second nation from Africa to make it out of the group stages at the Women's World Cup after Nigeria in did it in 1999.

Cameroon lost to reigning champions Japan 1-0 in their group matches but then achieved their first wins against Ecuador (6-0) and Switzerland (2-1.)

Despite creating surprises, the 53rd-ranked side joined already-eliminated African champions Nigeria, ranked 33, and 67th-ranked Ivory Coast on their way home.

"We need to develop women's football in Africa. We need good organisation, we also need to create as many clubs as possible. If we could have sponsorship it would be good," said Ngachu.

"We have the talented players. The problem African nations face is preparation.

"The day we are prepared well an African nation will be able to win the World Cup.

"We hope that with this performance many things will change not just in Cameroon but in Africa."

Cameroon, African runners-up to Nigeria, were also struggling in the weather conditions in Edmonton.

"We didn't expect cold weather and rain, it was a handicap for our team.

"It's unfortunate we haven't been training on surfaces that are very slippery," said Ngachu.

Nigeria, who have won nine of the eleven African championships so far, have competed in every World Cup since 1991 but only advanced once out of the group stage.

Despite Nigeria's Super Falcons impressing in a 3-3 draw against Sweden, they fell to Australia 2-0 and the United States 1-0.

The Ivory Coast were thrashed 10-0 by Germany on their World Cup debut, but suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to Thailand before falling 3-1 to Norway in the final group match on Monday.

Seven arrested in Italy for fraud

Seven people have been arrested in Italy over suspected match-fixing involving Catania in Serie B, police said on Tuesday.

The seven were accused of "fraud in sporting competition... aimed at influencing the results and altering the outcome of (Serie B) matches in which Catania were involved, with the consequent victory for that team," Catania police said in a statement.

Police did not give any further details of when the manipulation took place or which matches were involved, but said a news conference would take place at 11 a.m. (0900 GMT)

Catania, relegated from Serie A the previous season, finished 15th in Serie B, just three points above the relegation playoff places.

Nigeria Coach Stephen Keshi and Captain Enyeama in trouble.

The Nigerian manage Stephen Keshi met with the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) disciplinary committee on Tuesday to answer questions on why his name appeared on a list of candidates to be the next coach for Ivory Coast.

The NFF executive board will have the final say on any punishments, on a date still to be decided.

Keshi, who just got a new two-year contract with the NFF in April, was on a list of 59 applicants published recently by the Ivorian federation (FIF) to take over from Frenchman Herve Renard.

Meanwhile, Nigeria captain Enyeama made "uncomplimentary remarks" regarding safety and security in Kaduna for a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad.

The goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama declined the chance to appear to answer questions about comments he made about playing an international match in Kaduna.

Enyeama, who plays for Lille in France and is the Super Eagles most capped player with 101 caps, failed to reply to messages from the NFF seeking an explanation for his comments.

The 32-year-old could face a lengthy ban for his comments which the NFF feels broke its recent code of conduct signed by the players as well as his failure to attend Tuesday's hearing.
This story is still a developing story…

Sergio Ramos angry at Real Madrid.

Sergio Ramos has made his mind to leave Real Madrid next seasaon. AS have been informed that the defender whose contract expires in 2017 when he will be 31 is angry with events over the past few days. A lack of official communication from the club to deny his link with Barça pre-candidate for club presidency, Jordi Majó was the focus point.
Ramos does not want to be another player who has to leave the club under a cloud as was the case with Vicente Del Bosque, Hierro, Raúl and if everything materializes as anticipated, goalkeeper, Iker Casillas. The defender feels that he is undervalued and has his mind firmly made up. For this reason, he is prepared to move to another club with no salary increase expectations, (he’s currently on €6 million euro net per year). Money is not the player’s motivation and as yet there have been no offers but now the Sevilla born defender will now listen to bids from those club’s looking to bolster their central defense, such as Manchester United, Manchester City or PSG.
The Madrid defender was involved in contract re-negotiation talks with the club and is angered with stories being filtered from Real Madrid that create a negative image with the insinuation that the financial aspect of any deal was always the key aspect in his negotiation. Sergio Ramos has a buy-out clause of €200 million.
