Manchester City offer £30million to Liverpool for Sterling

Liverpool has just turn down a £30m bid for Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

They confirmed on Thursday evening that they had rejected the City’s offer of an initial £25million plus the possibility of £5million in add-ons.

City's opening gambit does not come close to meeting Liverpool's request of more than £50m for the England international.

City made a statement by opening the bidding for Sterling but are unlikely to be put off by Liverpool's rejection as they look to challenge on all fronts next season.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said : ""We want a squad that has the capability and quality to win the Premier League, compete and win the Champions League and compete and be able to go all the way in two cup competitions in England and I think you will see some changes.

"You will see some players who have served us well, and maybe it's time for them to move onto their next challenge, and you will see us in the market bringing high quality individuals, that fit within what we are aspiring to, coming in the summer."

Sterling, who has turned down a new £100,000-a-week contract with the Reds, claims that his decision is based on a desire to win trophies rather than financial gain and his agent Aidy Ward is alleged to have claimed even a “£900,000-a-week” offer from Liverpool would not be enough to tempt him into penning a new deal.

The 20-year-old has already been the subject of interest this summer from neighbours United, and a number of clubs are interested in the talented youngster.
